Our Story

The Muslim American Society (MAS) was founded in 1993 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to nurturing individuals through Islamic education and empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities. Over the past three decades, MAS has grown into a nationally recognized grassroots movement with more than 50 chapters across the United States, offering programs that promote spiritual growth, leadership, community service, youth engagement, interfaith initiatives, and civic involvement.

MAS Greater Los Angeles (MAS GLA) is proud to be part of this national network, serving our local community with programs that support personal development, education, and meaningful community engagement. While the national MAS provides the guiding mission and vision, MAS GLA focuses on addressing the unique needs of the Greater Los Angeles community, helping individuals and families grow, connect, and contribute to a just and virtuous society.

At MAS GLA, we believe that by nurturing individuals, we empower them to nurture others – creating a ripple effect of positive change that strengthens families, communities, and society as a whole.

Our Mission

“To move people and nurture lifelong, God-centered agents of change.”

MAS is one of the nation’s leading grassroots Muslim organizations, led by dedicated members and volunteers across the United States. Our work takes place in youth spaces, Islamic centers, community halls, and the homes of our members, all focused on nurturing growth, connection, and community.

At MAS GLA, you can take part in a variety of programs, including youth activities, family camps, Qiyam at your Masjid, regional halaqas, summer youth camps, social justice initiatives, and our annual convention. We invite you to join us, get involved, and experience the meaningful ways our community comes together.

Our Vision

“A vibrant American Muslim community striving for a just and virtuous society.”

MAS envisions a vibrant American Muslim community striving for a just and virtuous society. We advocate the belief that Islam is both a faith and a movement for positive change.

Sustaining this movement means mentoring and nurturing future leaders while working together as a community. These principles are the foundation of MAS’s work. Over the years, MAS has guided and developed hundreds of Muslim activists who have gone on to lead and serve within the community. Our network remains a cornerstone of Islamic engagement and has inspired the creation of numerous organizations and initiatives.
